Stretch Goals, Leading with Clarity and Confidence

Most leaders I sit with are already doing well. They are smart, capable, and deeply committed. But there is a moment when the soul wakes up and says, “There is more.” That is where stretch goals matter.

A stretch goal is a goal that sits just beyond what feels comfortable. Not fantasy. Not pressure. It is simply the next version of you calling you forward. In 2024 Soul Shepherding found that 91 percent of pastors reported experiencing some form of burnout and yet most of them are still leading with courage. Stretch goals help leaders move from survival into possibility.

When you name a stretch goal in the present tense your non conscious mind starts searching for alignment. You begin to notice opportunities, breathe deeper, think more creatively, and move toward what matters without forcing it. Rest and union with Jesus create the space where this clarity rises. Hurry blocks it. Love sustains it.

In my practice I combine life coaching and spiritual direction. Coaching focuses on outcomes. Spiritual direction focuses on relationship with God. Both stay confidential. Always.

If you want to explore stretch goals for your life or leadership I would love to talk by phone or Zoom or in person if you are local.

And if you know a pastor, or are friends with a pastor who could use a safe place to breathe I would be grateful for the introduction. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give a pastor is simply pointing them to a safe place to breathe.
