Coming Clean as Worship

Pastor, there’s a scene in Joshua that speaks powerfully to us. After Israel’s defeat at Ai, Achan was found hiding what he had taken. Joshua said to him:

“My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and honor Him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it.” (Joshua 7:19)

Notice this—telling the truth was framed as giving God glory. Honesty was praise.

For pastors today, this isn’t only about sin. It’s also about the weight we carry. Burnout. Exhaustion. Quiet thoughts of “I can’t keep doing this.”

When you bring those feelings into the light—when you admit the truth to God, to a trusted friend, or to a coach—you’re not failing. You’re honoring Him. You’re saying, “Lord, You are the One who sees me. You are the Judge of truth. I trust You enough to stop hiding.”

Confession is worship. Naming your weariness gives God glory because it acknowledges reality before the One who already knows. And in that honesty, there is freedom and rest.

You don’t have to carry the weight alone.
